Sports Shawties was born out of an unexpected bond forged in a space that wasn’t meant for us. It started in an NFL group chat on the GroupMe app—over 200 members, but only a handful of women. The atmosphere was toxic, with men spewing hateful, dismissive comments toward the few women who dared to engage. But from that hostility came something beautiful.
Eight of us, bound by our love for football, broke away and created our own space—a separate group chat where we could talk freely, debate passionately, and celebrate the game on our own terms. That chat became more than just a conversation; it became a sisterhood. For over eight years, we talked daily, supporting each other through life’s highs and lows, even though some of us had never met in person.
By 2024, I had only met half of these incredible women, but my love for sports took me across the world. I traveled solo to Paris for the Olympics and to Boston for the NBA Finals. That’s when the idea clicked—why not intentionally bring this sisterhood to life? Instead of traveling alone, why not create experiences where women who love sports can travel together, support their teams, and build real connections beyond the screen?
And just like that, Sports Shawties was born—a movement for women who love sports, travel, and community. What started as a response to exclusion became an invitation for women to take up space, cheer loudly, and experience the game together—on our own terms.
